“I know this is the Hollywood Life Breakthrough Awards but it’s gone on so long, it feels like we should be giving out Life Achievement Awards.”
Still, he couldn’t say enough about Emily Blunt. Literally. He talked at length about her basically taking over every aspect of the film, from costumes to script to who was in what scene and for how long.
Of course, it was all in good fun although bossy Blunt, her hands firmly on her hips onstage, joked that playing a mean and cruel fashion-obsessed rag mag assistant “was not much of a stretch for me.”
She presented the Star of the Year Award to her “Devil” co-star Anne
Hathway, who admitted, like every single winner last night, to feeling
“grateful” and “thrilled” to be in the company of all the “amaaaaazing”
talent such as…
Lauren Shuler Donner presented an award to "A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints" star Channing Tatum, who told an astonishing story about Donner helping him remove – and reinsert – a tampon during an audition. In his nose. Seems he didn’t know to remove the cardboard parts…..
Sorry, I got distracted.
Still more talent: presenter Sydney Pollack and “Breaking and Entering” winner Vera Farmiga, winner Jessica Biel and her “The Illusionist” co-star/presenter Rufus Sewell, presenter Evan Rachel Wood and her winning “Running with Scissors” co-star Joseph Cross.
Whew. Frankly, even I’m amaaazed just writing the names of all these potential Oscar and Globe nominees, all spending an entire evening in the Henry Fonda Music Box theatre.
Such a star-studded turnout can mean only one thing: the awards campaigns are really heating up.
And trust me, being seen holding an award – any award – even an untelevised Breakthrough Award from Hollywood Life, a magazine with a relatively small (and I’m being polite here) circulation – counts big time.
