Courteneyc_wirei_11802938_600What would make Jennifer Aniston go to the trouble to have her hair painstakingly flat-ironed (trust me, it’s a pain) and brave the freezing rain to walk a red carpet on the Paramount lot?

]]>Friendship.

Aniston came out for the wet Saturday night premiere of “Dirt,” her old “Friends” pal Courteney Cox’s new FX series that premieres in early January.

But here’s the rub. In "Dirt," Cox plays the ambitious, sexy and unscrupulous editrix of not one but two celebrity magazines. One of them is fluffy friendly but the other is a down-n-dirty tabloid scandal sheet, the kind that has unmercifully detailed Aniston’s painful split from Brad Pitt, his new life (and family) with Angelina Jolie and Jen’s dating/engagement/wedding/breakup with Vince Vaughn.

After the screening, there was an after-party at Republic that drew another supportive pal Matthew Perry, Aniston, Cox and her husband (and her co-producer on "Dirt") David Arquette, his sister Patricia and his  drag queen brother Alexis, who hooked like he was more than halfway to becoming a new woman. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Also in the crowd, Helen Hunt, who also knows a little something about invasive reporters, with "Dirt" creator/husband Matthew Carnahan.

Best part of the post party? Hired faux paparazzi snapped guests photos and put them on faux Dirt mag covers. According to my inside spy, Jen didn’t partake. Hey, she’s trying to stay off the newstands these days. Can you blame her?

But you can bet her pal Courteney will be very visible at the 2007  Globes, Screen Actors Guild  awards and maybe even the Oscars, to properly publicize her new TV series. Sometimes press attention can be a good thing.
