Sometimes we feel bad about being so superficial. Then again, there are times like today when it feels soooo right. And while we probably should be discussing the safari styling of a saint like Jane Goodall, we are just too obsessed with the bodacious and devilish Kim Kardashian of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Sundays on E! Entertainment Television.
Both famous and infamous, the curvy star has a style that oozes sensuality and seduction tempered by a youthful glow and an ever-increasing sense of glamour. In short, she’s hot. And while we’d be hard-pressed to call her a role model for impressionable girls — her claim to fame can be traced back to a video camera and her former boyfriend — young women blessed with curves could do a lot worse than emulate her style. All it takes is a little money and a lot of confidence.
“I like tighter-fitting clothes,” says the 27-year-old during a break in shooting the series. “Body-hugging dresses are my favorite. They are easy and comfortable … I feel heavier if things are looser.”
In fact, her self-image is a wonderful combination of confidence and concern. She readily admits to cellulite — though we don’t ever recommend pointing out one’s flaws; if people are too stupid to have noticed them, that’s their problem. Still, it’s charming to hear a woman ranked 28 in a “top women” survey on AskMen.com (not bad considering Heidi Klum is No. 25) discuss her insecurities.
“Spanx are my best friend,” she says with a laugh.
Her sisters Khloe and Kourtney — with whom she co-owns the Calabasas, Calif., boutique Dash — consider her style “over the top” based on a need to follow the trends, embrace color and patterns, and unabashedly show off the gifts that God gave her. But Kim is growing up, and while she is a far cry from abandoning the sexy dresses of Roberto Cavalli and Dolce & Gabbana, she is embracing a more elegant turn.
“I used to be extremely flashy, and I would always stay away from black,” she says. “But I love creams, camels and browns during the daytime and definitely love black at night.”
Her coloring works the hues into a powerful canvas for a look that’s smoky and sultry. In fact, her personal style tends to come from her store since these days she doesn’t have time to shop.
“I just walk into the store and grab things,” she says, smiling. The three sisters share the buying duties for the boutique, which features a great variety of labels such as Alice and Olivia, See by Chloe, Catherine Malandrino, Jill Stuart, Moschino, McQ, Nicole Miller, Hanky Panky, and Sass & Bide.
