R&B star Chris Brown pleaded not guilty in an L.A. court Monday afternoon to charges stemming from an attack on his girlfriend Rihanna.
Brown appeared at the arraignment in L.A. Superior Court and entered the plea through his attorney, Mark Geragos. Neither man spoke to reporters.
Rihanna's attorney, Donald Etra, later told reporters that Rihanna hoped a plea bargain could be struck. He added that she would testify against Brown if it was necessary.

Lets get that plea bargain worked out stat, guys!
An April 29 status hearing has been set for Brown.
Los Angeles prosecutors have said Brown attacked Rihanna, 21, during an argument in his rented Lamborghini last February.
Brown would later issue a statement saying he was "sorry and saddened" about the incident and was seeking counseling. He then attended anger management classes.
The charges accuse Brown of assaulting Rihanna "by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury" and threatening to commit a crime "which would result in death and great bodily injury."
The singer, 19, could face up to four years in prison.
His mom — alternately crying for and praying for her son — was in court during the preliminary hearing.
