Don’t get too excited: The long-hoped-for “Arrested Development” movie isn’t any further along than it was the last time anyone heard about it.
But one of the stars of the show, Will Arnett, is working on a new project with the show’s creator, Mitch Hurwitz, and writer/producer Jim Vallely.
FOX has given a script commitment to a pilot that will star Arnett as a “rich Beverly Hills jackass” — sounds like GOB Bluth to me — who falls for an altruistic woman who hates the way he lives his life, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Hurwitz and Vallely are writing the script.
The network is doubtless hoping that this project will fare a little better than its animated series “Sit Down, Shut Up,” which starred Arnett (along with fellow “Arrested” alum Jason Bateman) and which Vallely and Hurwitz executive produced — and which bombed in a short run in the spring.
Arnett, an Emmy nominee for both “Arrested Development” and a guest role on “30 Rock” last year, currently stars in “G-Force.” He’ll also appear opposite Kristen Bell in the rom-com “When in Rome” early next year.
