The alleged assaults took place between August 2002 and March 2009 and include “four counts of forcible rape, two counts of assault with intent to commit rape and two counts of sexual penetration by a foreign object.”
Da Silva was previously accused of sexually assaulting three women beginning in 2002, but no charges were filed at the time. When a fourth woman, a student of his dance class, came forward on March 28 and reported that she was invited to his home and raped there, detectives reopened the case when interviews of the previous accusers — all unknown to each other — matched the latest student’s assertion.
He’s being held on $6.2 million bail and is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday.
The Brazilian-born Da Silva teaches his unique LA style salsa at the Edge Performing Arts Center Hollywood, the Mayan club in downtown Los Angeles, at Mama Juana’s in Studio City and various other clubs in the Los Angeles area.
On FOX’s reality show “So You Think You Can Dance,” guest choreographers like Da Silva come in to create original routines, often crossing disciplines, for the contestants to perform each week to test versatility.
The sixth season of the show will air this fall.
