Oren Peli, writer-director of the microbudget horror flick “Paranormal Activity,” will go from ghosts to aliens.
Peli will begin work next week on “Area 51” with a relatively huge budget of $5 million, according to Variety. By contrast, “Paranormal Activity” cost somewhere just north of $10,000 to make.
“Area 51” will employ a similar handheld-camera style to “Activity” (and, yes, genre great-grandpappy “The Blair Witch Project”). The story will reportedly follow a group of teens who decide to visit the fabled Air Force research base, long thought to hold extraterrestrial secrets. Peli, though, won’t reveal what to expect.
“I’d rather not say anything about ‘Area 51’ except that I am very pleased to be working with the same team who stood by me for the two or three years it took ‘Paranormal Activity’ to get into theaters,” Peli said in a statement.
“Paranormal Activity” is currently in limited release nationwide.
