In the early morning hours of Jan. 13, 2008, Avary was driving while intoxicated when he hit a telephone pole north of Los Angeles. His wife Gretchen was ejected and suffered serious injuries, and passenger Andreas Zedini was killed.
On Aug. 18, Avary plead guilty to charges of gross vehicular manslaughter and two felony counts of causing bodily injury while intoxicated.
The writer will also serve five years’ probation.
Avary was recently recruited to pen a sequel to his horror hilm “Silent Hill.” It’s not known yet how that and other projects will be affected.
