Now that we’ve gotten the Crazy Bachelorettes and the Desperate Bachelorettes out of the way, let’s look at the early favorites for Jake Pavelka on “The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love” — Tenley, Elizabeth, and Ali.
These are our picks for the early favorites. We have no idea if they even make it past the first episode, but based on what we saw, we like their chances. And it’s nice to see they found some girls we think would actually fit well with Jake.
Tenley, 25, college admissions rep, Newberg, OR
Tenley has an interesting backstory. She’s been married before but her husband cheated on her and he’s the only man she’s ever been with, in the Biblical sense. When she gets some one-on-one time with Jake, she does a Top 10 of Tenley list for him: she has a big heart, she checks her credit score, she has values, she’s honest, she knows how to have fun, she’s a cuddlebug, she’s passionate, she’s ready to start a new adventure, she’s and good kisser, so pucker up Jake. And then we have our first “Bachelor” kiss!
Later, in a talking head, Tenley reveals that she was so nervous to be so bold like that and that that was the first kiss she’s shared with anyone since her divorce. She starts crying and it’s all very sweet. Thumbs up on Tenley.
Elizabeth, 29, nanny, Imperial, NE
Elizabeth is a bit of a tomboy, so her gimmick is throwing around the ol’ pigskin with Jake. Normally we don’t like the gimmicks that girls bring to the show (because most of the time they are either creepy or desperate), but Elizabeth’s gimmick didn’t bother us because she put her money where her mouth was. That girl has an arm. We just got a really down-to-earth vibe from Elizabeth, she seems to have a good rapport with Jake. Ed and Jillian liked her too. Thumbs up on Elizabeth.
Ali, 25, account manager, Williamstown, MA
Ali has an even more disturbing backstory than Tenley, except she wasn’t married. She and her boyfriend were living with a female roommate and it turns out he was sneaking over to the roommie’s bedroom to cheat on Ali. Awesome! That’s not why we like her, though. Like Elizabeth, Ali seems really down-to-earth and like she has a good head on her shoulders. We hope she sticks around. Thumbs up on Ali.
There were other girls who seemed perfectly nice but we didn’t get to see a lot of in the first episode. Hopefully we’ll get to know them and Jake will send some of the Crazies or Desperates home.
“The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love” premieres on Monday, Jan. 4 on ABC.
