“Avatar” and “The Hurt Locker” now lead the Academy Awards with nine nominations each, including best picture and director for James Cameron and Kathryn Bigelow (left), who just happen to have been married in the late ’80s.
Cameron’s “Avatar” also got eight nods for this year’s British version of the Oscars, the Baftas. And he’s up against Kathryn’s “Locker” for six of them. Oh, this is gonna get ugly.
]]>But his ex-wife has the Oscar edge. She just won the DGA Best Director award, beating all the guys in that category, including her ex-hubby. She calls it “the best moment of my life.”
This Oscar season has all the makings of one of Cameron’s epic love stories.
Bigelow is one of his five wives, making the 55-year-old director’s personal life a pretty wild roller coaster.
His last divorce was from Linda Hamilton, whom he fell for on the set of “Terminator II,” and it reportedly cost him around $50 million.
He met and fell for his current spouse Suzie Amis on the “Titanic” set. How does this guy even find time for love while making his mega-million dollar movies?
Cameron has said he wants to see Bigelow succeed. “‘You know, Kathryn and I have worked together a lot, and we’ll probably work together again. And if she wins, I’ll be cheering,” he told E!
One of Cameron’s cinematic trademarks is his appreciation for strong female characters. Looks like his life imitates his art. Or vice versa.
Can’t you just imagine Kathryn shouting a version of Sigourney Weaver‘s famous “Aliens” line: “Get away from that Oscar, you b—-h!” on the Oscar stage.
Now that would be a memorable acceptance speech.
