It’s safe to say that Tuesday night (March 23) was not “American Idol’s” finest hour (or two hours). Given the theme of Billboard No. 1 songs, the 11 remaining contestants ran through a litany of weird song choices and shaky performances.
One performer who didn’t flame out, though, was Crystal Bowersox, who performed the Kris Kristofferson-written Janis Joplin chart-topper “Me and Bobby McGee.” Was it maybe a safe choice? Sure. But she also was her typically strong self. Here’s her performance:
Simon Cowell compared her version of the song favorably to Pink’s cover. For compare-and-contrast purposes, here’s a version she sang on “Today” in 2007.
