tim urban american idol 320 'American Idol' first impressions: Michael Lynche improves, Tim Urban does notThe “American Idol” men were 100% better than last week. Which wouldn’t actually take much, but still. Good for them.

This is Zap2it’s new quick initial “Idol” ZapCap. The full recap is live here.

The Highlights: Michael Lynche and Lee Dewyze

These two were the bookends Tuesday (Mar. 2) night and rightfully so. Michael kicked it off with a killer “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” by James Brown and got deserved praise by the judges. Lee Dewyze capped off the night with “Lips of an Angel” by Hinder and while there were a few bum notes, Lee is incredibly current and radio-friendly.

The Lowlights: Aaron Kelly and Tim Urban
Aaron’s “My Girl” wasn’t that good, but thousands of tweens just went New-Kids-on-the-Block-crazy and text-voted a gazillion times for him. Likewise, Tim Urban got panned by Randy, Ellen and Kara but will surely be saved by Simon Cowell’s praise.

The Lights: Todrick Hall and Casey James
Todrick Hall again changed up a song and again the judges ripped him apart. They then spent the rest of the episode telling the contestants to change up songs and make them more original. Meanwhile, frontrunner Casey James might have shown his soft underbelly this week
— that he’s actually a great guitar player who can kinda sing.
