“American Idol” may be welcoming its first guest mentor in the form of R&B star Usher for the Top 10 contestants.
According to Usher’s website, he is appearing on “American Idol” both Tuesday, March 30 and Wednesday, March 31, which would imply that he is both the guest mentor and the performer during the results show.
This appearance on “Idol” would coincide with the release of Usher’s new album “Raymond v Raymond,” which hits stores and iTunes on March 30. You’d have to think he’d performing a single off the album for the live results show on March 31.
Does this mean the theme for that week is R&B? “American Idol” generally tries to match mentors with an appropriate theme but has “Idol” ever done an R&B week?
It would be great if the theme was like “Broadway.” Usher was on the Great White Way in 2006 as Billy Flynn in the revival of “Chicago,” so it’s not much of a stretch. We’d love to see the theme for Usher play against type.
