FOX has found the female lead for its drama pilot “Ridealong” in former “L Word” star Jennifer Beals.
Beals will play Chicago’s new chief of police in the pilot, which comes from “The Shield” creator Shawn Ryan, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Ryan and Beals have worked together on another FOX show, “Lie to Me,” where he’s an executive producer and she has had a recurring role as Cal Lightman’s (Tim Roth) ex-wife.
“Ridealong” also stars Jason Clarke as a beat cop in the city. The cast also includes Todd Williams (“In Plain Sight”) and Matt Lauria (“Friday Night Lights,” “Lipstick Jungle”).
Elsewhere, “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star Cheryl Hines and Carrie Fisher have joined the cast of ABC’s Debra Messing comedy “Wright vs. Wrong,” the HR reports.
The show stars Messing as a conservative pundit who sometimes has trouble living up to the things she espouses on camera. Hines, who’s guested on ABC’s “Brothers & Sisters” this season, will play Messing’s liberal foil, and Fisher (“Star Wars,” “The Women”) will play Messing’s manager.
In other casting news:
– John Larroquette has joined another FOX pilot, the legal drama “Pleading Guilty.” The former “Boston Legal” star will play the managing partner of a law firm who recruited the lead character (Jason Isaacs). “Pleading Guilty” is based on Scott Turow’s novel.
– Keith David (“The Princess and the Frog,” the upcoming “Death at a Funeral”) has joined the cast of NBC’s drama “The Cape,” the HR says. He’ll play a criminal who becomes something of a mentor to David Lyons’ character, a disgraced police officer who takes on a superheroic alter ego in an effort to clear his name.
