The concert will be held on Thursday, June 10, the day before the start of the month-long World Cup. This marks the first time that Africa will host soccer’s (or football’s, as it’s called most places around world) biggest competition.

Net proceeds will go to 20 Centres for 2010, which is FIFA’s official social campaign for the World Cup — which aims to build 20 centres across Africa offering healthcare services, education and soccer training for disadvantaged communities. Beckham will most likely be watching from the sidelines. The 34-year-old midfielder underwent emergency surgery on his left Achilles tendon after injuring himself in the AC Milan/Chievo match on Sunday. A six-month recovery is expected.
