Showtime’s racy take on Henry VIII’s reign and his many, many wives, “The Tudors,” is over this year. But that doesn’t mean fans’ costume drama fix will be left unattended to for very long.

“Tudors” creator Michael Hirst (who wrote every single episode of “Tudors”) is turning his attentions to the infamous Spanish-Italian family “The Borgias,” with Oscar-nominated director Neil Jordan helming at least the first two episodes.

In his first regular series role, Jeremy Irons will play Rodrigo Borgia, the family patriarch who was elected pope (taking the name Alexander VI) in 1492.
