We were beginning to think that “The Hills” cameras would follow Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt, and Kristin Cavallari until they were pushing their walkers into Joan’s on Third, but it looks like the end is near.
And just when Heidi’s own “hills” were starting to rival the size of the Hollywood Hills the show was named after!
MTV has announced that Season 6, which begins Tuesday, April 27 at 10 p.m. ET, will be the last. “We owe it to the fans, the cast, and the show to go out on a high note,” says MTV’s president of programming, Tony DiSanto. “This season will deliver on that goal in terms of drama, story, real emotion, and an organic culmination of this saga.”
The final 12 episodes will feature Heidi revealing the results of her plastic surgery to her surprised mother, a scene that executive producer Liz Gateley calls “touching, but heartbreaking.” Cameras will also follow the cast as they navigate possible substance abuse issues: Cavallari will face rumors of drug use after partying in Miami, and Stephanie Pratt will face the consequences of her DUI. Meanwhile, Audrina Patridge will date Ashlee Simpson‘s reality-show ex, Ryan Cabrera. They tease the possibility of a return from the original “Hills” ingenue, Lauren Conrad, but make no promises.
We’re looking forward to finding out what Spencer Pratt’s next move will be. Though he’s currently on hiatus from filming the show to “deal with some stuff,” according to creator Adam DiVello, “he’ll be in most of the episodes.” We’re sure that he won’t allow himself to be out of the spotlight for long.
It’d be pretty lame to admit that we’re a little bit sad that the saga that began with “Laguna Beach” all those long years ago is coming to an end… so we won’t admit it.
