Rocker Melissa Etheridge and her partner of nine years, “Popular” queen bee Tammy Lynn Michaels announced their separation on Thursday (April 15). The couple held a commitment ceremony in Malibu in 2003, and Michaels has been going by the name Tammy Etheridge since.
In a statement, Etheridge’s rep says, “Melissa and Tammy Etheridge are saddened to announce that they are now separated.” The couple has two children, son Miller and daughter Johnnie Rose, conceived via anonymous sperm donor and delivered by Michaels.

Etheridge has been a vocal advocate for gay rights for the majority of
her career. In November 2008 she announced that she would not file
state taxes in response to the passing of California’s Proposition 8 to
ban gay marriage.
On Thursday, Tammy Lynn Michaels posted a message to her blog. “what to do now,” she wrote. “keep going going going.”
