TNT is giving its flagship series “The Closer” a slightly later start this summer.
The series, one of the most-watched on cable, will begin its sixth season on Monday, July 12, a month later than its debut last year. That night will also feature the debut of a new female-centered crime drama, “Rizzoli & Isles.”
The Monday shows join “Leverage,” which returns June 20, and another new series, “Memphis Beat,” which debuts June 22, on TNT’s summer schedule. The final episodes of “Saving Grace” will also unfold in early summer; it’s slated to return on May 24.
“Rizzoli & Isles” is based on a series of novels by Tess Gerritsen. It stars Angie Harmon (“Law & Order,” “Women’s Murder Club”) as a Boston homicide detective and Sasha Alexander (“NCIS”) as a medical examiner who works with Rizzoli on cases.
“Memphis Beat” (formerly called “Delta Blues”) stars Jason Lee (“My Name Is Earl”) as a Memphis cop and Elvis fan who has a deep connection to his hometown. The series also features Alfre Woodard as his boss, Sam Hennings as his partner and DJ Qualls (“Road Trip”) as a young officer who looks up to Lee’s character.
