Crystal Bowersox blew many fans away with the third song she delivered Tuesday night (May 25), giving her best bid for the title of “American Idol.”
“Up to the Mountain” will be her first single released if she wins, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it still did well if she lost.
The song was originally written by Patty Griffin about Martin Luther King, Jr.’s moving “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” speech he delivered the day he was assassinated. Here’s a sample of the lyrics:
Some days I look down
Afraid I will fall
And though the sun shines
I see nothing at all
The song suits Bowersox’s soulful, almost gospel-y singing style and may have tipped the scales in her favor — that is, if the competition by now were about pure performance over personal preference.

She also sang another rousing rendition of “Me and Bobby McGee” and a so-so “Black Velvet.” Check out Zap2it’s recap of her and Lee DeWyze’s final competition performances.
