The 17-year-old Disney Channel star is proclaiming her independence with “Can’t Be Tamed,” the first song from her new album. She released it on her MySpace Music page on Friday (April 30), and the video will premiere Tuesday, May 4 on E! You’ll have to wait to buy the single until May 18; her album, also called “Can’t Be Tamed,” goes on sale June 22.

Sort of — there’s also a lyric where she says “I’m not here to sell ya/or tell you to go to hell.” In case you’re wondering what the song’s message is, her label provides the following helpful explanation: “‘Can’t Be Tamed’ is a self-empowering song in which Miley asserts that she has to stay true to herself in relationships.” Thanks, Hollywood Records!
