Nike has outdone itself with its latest World Cup commercial, directed by writer-director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu ( “Babel,” “Amores Perros,” “21 Grams”) who knows a little bit about beautifully weaving seemingly unrelated incidents into a moving and fascinating narrative.
The slogan for the 3-minute video is called “Write the Future,”and it features soccer legends Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Landon Donovan and Ronaldinho. There’s even a cameo by LA Lakers’ Kobe Bryant, Roger Federer and Homer Simpson. Doh!

And it’s certainly light years better than Tiger Woods‘ recent Nike ad featuring his dead father’s voice asking him what he learned.
