Reality TV already made its stamp when “American Idol” contestant Ayla
Brown‘s father Scott Brown won the Massachusetts U.S. Senate seat vacated by
Ted Kennedy’s death. But with the retirement of Rep. David Obey
of Wisconsin’s seventh district — who is also the House Appropriations Committee Chairman
and fourth-longest-serving House member — another reality show might be
joining Capitol Hill — “The Real World.”
Obey has announced that he will not seek re-election in November, leaving the door wide open for the Republican challenger, who is
none other than Ashland D.A. Sean Duffy, former “Real World: Boston”
cast member and husband to Rachel Campos Duffy of “Real World: San
Francisco.” The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel calls Sean Duffy
a front-runner now that Obey has announced his retirement.
a District Attorney and sometime-commentator for ESPN. Can you imagine
someone like Trishelle, J.T. or any number of those goons who keep
appearing on the “Real World”-“Road Rules” challenges holding a U.S.
Congress seat? Yikes.
But come November, we just may have that happen. With “Idol” and “The
Real World” covered, we would next like to see Phil Keoghan appointed
Secretary of Transportation, Jeff Probst as the Secretary of State and
Julie Chen as Secretary of the Interior.
