cynthia nixon advocate 01 'Sex and the City 2's' Cynthia Nixon on going topless, her 'butch' partnerWhen Cynthia Nixon goes nude, it’s not for political reasons or to make a big statement.

The “Sex and the City 2” star opened up in the June/July issue of The Advocate about her big-screen nude scene in the original film, confirming that going topless didn’t have anything to do with her struggle with breast cancer.

“They didn’t know about it at the time,” Nixon says. “Generally, my thoughts are, if they ask me to do [a nude scene], I’ll do one. I mean, I won’t do [just] anything, but I feel like if [director/producer] Michael Patrick [King] wants me to do it, there’s a reason he wants me to do it.”

A few months into dating, Nixon could tell there was speculation about her relationship with Christine Marinoni, her now-fiancee. “I was like, ‘Really, we can just confirm?'” Nixon says about advice from gay publicist Kelly Bush. “So that’s just what we did. It was so fantastic.” Of her partner, the actress reveals, “She’s like a short man with boobs. A lot of what I love about her is her butchness. I’m not saying I fell in love with her in a sexually neutral way. I love her sexuality — it’s a big part of what I love about her — but I feel like it was her.” “Sex and the City 2,” which reunites Nixon as Miranda Hobbes with her gal pals, premieres on Thursday, May 27.
