Zac Efron decided he was hanging up his dancing shoes for a while (the “High School Musical” star pulled out of “Footlose” in early 2009) and headed out to sea for a role in “Charlie St. Cloud.”
Efron teams up once more with “17 Again” director Burr Stears to play a young accomplished sailor who becomes a caretaker at the cemetery where his younger brother is buried after a tragic car accident. Soon thereafter, Charlie’s (Efron) little brother becomes an omnipresent fixture in his life … as a ghost, “Sixth Sense” style.
]]>Ben Sherwood, the film is a more
serious turn for 22-year-old Efron, who will also be tackling darker
subject matter in
the upcoming “Snabba Cash” (where he plays a money launderer).
Also starring in the film are Kim Basinger as Efron’s mother, Amanda
Crew as his love interest and newcomer Charlie Tahan as his
“Charlie St. Cloud” hits theaters on July 30.
