What do AMC’s new series “Rubicon” and “Glee” have in common? Almost nothing — except the way their networks are trying to build hype for them.
AMC is previewing the pilot for “Rubicon,” a conspiracy drama starring James Badge Dale (“The Pacific”), at 11 p.m. ET Sunday (June 13), following the season finale of “Breaking Bad.” That’s six weeks before the series is scheduled to make its weekly debut following “Mad Men” on July 25.
The timeframe is a little more condensed, but the strategy is similar to what FOX did with “Glee” last year, airing the pilot in May 2009 before rolling out the series in September.
“Rubicon” stars Dale, who’s also a former “24” regular, as a think-tank analyst who stumbles onto a major conspiracy involving high levels of government and big business. The cast also includes Miranda Richardson (“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”), Jessica Collins (“The Nine”), Dallas Roberts (“The L Word”), Peter Gerety (“Brothers & Sisters”), Lauren Hodges and Arliss Howard (“The Time Traveler’s Wife”). Jason Horwitch wrote the pilot, and Henry Bromell (“Homicide,” “Brotherhood”) will serve as showrunner.
