Prince Albert of Monaco is finally getting married.
The 52-year-old bachelor is now engaged to marry Charlene Wittstock, a former Olympic swimmer for South Africa.
This royal marriage will provide a very suitable replacement for the Albert’s mother, the former crown princess Grace Kelly, who died in a tragic car accident in 1982. Her death left a pall over the small, albeit monied principality.
]]>The palace announced the engagement of “His Serene Highness” and Wittstock, 32, who also bears more than a passing resemblance to Princess Grace.
will no doubt go all-out for the royal wedding, the first marriage of a
reigning prince since actress Kelly retired from films to marry
Albert’s father, Prince Rainier III, in 1956.
Albert met Wittstock in 2000 when she came to Monaco for a swimming competition. She has lived in Monaco since 2006.
Asked whether Wittstock might be pregnant, the palace spokeswoman tells the AP: “Honestly, I don’t think so.” She adds had that been the case, a formal announcement would have been made.
According to palace
protocol, royal couples must wait at least six months between the
announcement of the engagement and the wedding day. So if she is
pregnant, we will definitely find out before the big day.
