Alexis Agdeppa auditioned four times before she made it on to Season 7 of “So You Think You Can Dance.” That may have been to her detriment. Since the judges had already seen what she had to offer many times before, anything less was simply not going to do.
The first contestant eliminated from the competition Thursday (June 17) night, both judges Nigel Lythgoe and Adam Shankman say that Agdeppa’s last-chance solo didn’t indicate that she was “dancing for her life.”
“Week after week she had the same kind of performance level and it was crazy that it never varied or changed,” says Shankman, “so as much as we loved her there was a sameness to everything. We wanted her to go out and ignite the stage and it was like a polite solo.”
For her part, Agdeppa is philosophical about her elimination.
“I’ve been in the dance industry for a little bit,” Agdeppa, who at 26 was the oldest of the contestants, laughs. “Well, since I was little, as you saw.
“It’s an incredible experience and you have to take it day-by-day and you have to take everything as your teacher. Everyone you meet, everything you learn.”
Something else the judges agreed on that despite her early dismissal, Agdeppa will definitely get work as a professional dancer. So what’s her dream job?
“This question always makes me kind of sad because Michael Jackson would have been my ultimate dream,” Agdeppa says. “I would love to do a Cirque [du Soleil] show, something that really features dancers. I would love to dance for an artist too. I can’t name one exactly, maybe Beyonce but I’m a little small.”
