Not to worry though. We’ve managed to talk our way in (Daily Planet-style) and get seated for what’s going to be a huge fan farewell since this is the 10th and final season of the show.
Clark Kent himself, Tom Welling, will be present, along with Erica Durance, Cassidy Freeman and Justin Hartley (and EPs Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson). What, where’s Allison Mack?
Join us. It’s about to start …
10:00 a.m. – Brr .. it’s freezing in here! I guess I should’ve put on an extra pair of tights and cape. Stupid yellow sun.
10:03 a.m. – Hmm, wonder how many surprise guests we’ll have. I wonder how many I’ll recognize. This show has had so many people come and go.
10:08 a.m. – Lights are down. Screams are high. It has begun. The show will reach its 200th episode this season, which publicist Susan Kesser says makes it the longest-running sci fi series on TV. Well, maybe after “Doctor Who”?
10:10 a.m. – Recapping what’s come before with a clip package. Running through the seasons. Just too many highlights to name, but all the guest stars like Christopher Reeve and Michael McKean, the introduction of Lois and Green Arrow, Justice League, Kara get huge cheers. Wow, looking back, Clark has been through a lot. Poor Clark. Really love Callum Blue and the dark Clark.
10:16 a.m.- Peek of the final season – We see the red and blue outfit, Lois is in the desert? Chloe kisses Oliver, There’s some deformed lab. Kara is back. we see faces from the past – his dad, James Marsden, and OMG HE FLIES!!!!!!!
10:19 a.m. – Introduction of the panel. Durance’s pink sheath dress is hot! Cassidy Freeman, Justin Hartley, and of course Tom Wellling
10:21 a.m. – Tess Mercer – no goodbyes for her even though she flatlined last season.
10:22 a.m. – New villains – Darkside but in a slightly different form.
10:23 a.m. – Welling will direct again this year because “Absolute Justice” was so awesome.
10:24 a.m. – Q&A time – Will we see Clark wear the traditional suit? BTW, the one we saw in the clip is the same suit from the “Superman Returns” movie. They’re not really saying, but his black suit will be slightly different.
10: 25 a.m. – Oh wow, I was right! John Schneider will be back this season! He kisses Welling on the head.
10:28 a.m. – Both Cassidy and Erica say Wonder Woman are their fave superheroes.
10:29 a.m. – “You could be the greatest hero the world has ever seen” is Schneider’s favorite line, which he just said during taping recently.
10:30 a.m. – Hopefully Clark can finish college and get his bachelor’s degree.
10:32 a.m. – A plug for The CW’s “Hellcats,” which Welling is producing.
10:33 a.m. – Producer Kelly Souders says they’d love Michael Rosenbaum (“Rosie”) back, but so far no word.
10:33 a.m. – Erica Durance will be in 22 episodes this season. Hartley will do 17 and also direct. Oh, and be sure to watch the 200th episode because many of the “bucket list” items the producers have had for the show are fulfilled in there.
10:34 a.m. – Will he fly? “We know how all the comics turn out, so that’s the answer.” So, yes.
10:36 a.m. – Lots of goofing around on stage.
10:36 a.m. – If cast could be another character on Smallville, who? Cassidy says Green Arrow because of the awesome costume. Schneider wishes he were just more like Jonathan Kent in real life. Welling wouldn’t change his character. Ha! Hartley says he’d be Lois.
10:38 a.m. – No plans to have Superboy (Superman’s younger clone) but we get a “maybe.”
10:40 a.m. – Welling is being really cryptic about being approached to play Superman elsewhere.
10:41 a.m. – Everyone is talking about future projects. Schneider is waiting to see what’s up with “The Back Nine.” He makes a joke about an ad for tequila: “What’s in your golf bag?” Seriously, he is so freakin’ charming. He’s upstaging Welling, if that’s possible.
10:43 a.m. – Erica Durance discusses her training, which is part tae kwon do and part clumsiness and relying on the stunt people. Freeman finds the stunt doubles “creepy” since they’re dressed like her.
10:45 a.m. – No, no Batman or Wonder Woman, but we will have a couple from the Suicide Squad, a few Harbingers from Darkside, Hawkman back.
10:46 a.m. – Funniest moments during the show? Welling is blamed for them because he’s the prankster on set. Schneider tells anecdote about Welling not being able to say “macrame.” The crowd urges him to say it. He says, “hanging potted plant.”
10:48 a.m. – Welling recalls Rosenbaum’s “death” scene in which he just wouldn’t die and was just talking forever on set.
10:49 a.m. – Welling’s favorite scene ever is throwing the tractor. Schneider does air quotes when he confirms that Welling did “throw the tractor.” Hartley and Freeman both liked the episodes that featured them doing lots of action.
10:50 a.m. – 200th episode: Brian Peterson says we’ll ‘get a glimpse of the past, the present and maybe what is to come.”
10:51 a.m. – Will Chloe get a proper send-off? Kelly Souders says we won’t get a “send-off” because they love her. She’ll appear in a few episodes this season. Chloe will also be introduced into the comics. They say Action Comics #892.
10:52 a.m. – More favorite moments shared: When Christopher Reeve meets Tom.
10:53 a.m. – Speaking of, what was it like to meet him? Welling: “He was such an awesome guy and made me feel comfortable. It was incredible what he was able to do.” At the time Reeve was only supposed to shoot about 5 hours because of his condition, but he refused to leave that early and shot 10 or more hours.
10:54 a.m. – Huh, guy gets cut off as he asks question. Doesn’t sound bad. Guy was saying something about his daughter’s 18th birthday. Schneider makes a plea for the man to continue. The guy and walks his daughter up and gets the name placards signed. She’s wearing a Wonder Woman shirt and is ready to cry. Aww!!
10:58 a.m. – Why he wears black and silver first – The trials and tribulations he must go through is reflected what’s inside, before he’s able to be the fully realized Superman we know.
10:59 a.m. – People are getting pretty emotional, saying how they’ll probably never have something like this in their lives again and how it’s like family.
11:01 a.m. – Schneider wants for us to understand that “We wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you [the fans]. You are the folks that we work for and have employed us and kept us doing what we love for so long.”
11:02 a.m. – Welling: A show is a marathon, and the fans keep us running.
11:03 a.m. – Producer Brian Peterson agrees and gives a shoutout to those that camped out overnight.
11:04 a.m. – We’re seeing the season 10 sneak peek again. Lois Lane: “I’m the last one to know.” Hawkman, There’s a new perky hire at the Daily Planet. Cadmius Labs. Chloe: “I need to fine him. Oliver.” Hooded knitter. Oh yeah, we see the flying again. That was awesome. Hopefully we’ll have the video up soon.
That’s it for us for now. We’ll add a few pictures from the panel. Make sure to check back with Zap2it for extra “Smallville” stuff because we’ll be talking to the cast.
Season 10 starts on Friday, Sept. 24.
