After the massacre at Seattle Grace-Mercy West in last season’s finale, “Grey’s Anatomy” will start its new season on a somewhat lighter note. Not that that would be hard to do.
Strictly speaking, what follows is a pretty sizable spoiler. But given the simultaneous reports by several outlets Tuesday (Aug. 31), it’s clearly not something the “Grey’s” team is too afraid of letting out of the bag. OK? OK.
Season 7 will open with Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Owen (Kevin McKidd) getting married. Series creator Shonda Rhimes has said in interviews that the season will be about “rebirth” — the premiere is titled “With You I’m Born Again” — and their wedding will symbolize that.
Viewers will see both the proposal and the wedding in the premiere, but it’s not quite as rushed as it sounds. “There is definitely one knee involved, but there’s more to it than that,” McKidd tells TV Guide. “It’s a funny scene because we see it as a flashback. The proposal comes out of something that we didn’t expect.”
How being married affects Cristina’s formerly commitment-averse personality, Owen’s PTSD — and, oh yeah, any lingering issues with Teddy (Kim Raver) — remains to be seen.
“Grey’s Anatomy” premieres at 9 p.m. ET Thursday, Sept. 23 on ABC. What do you think of the impending nuptials?
