Adam Shankman should not, we repeat not, choreograph the 2011 Oscars again. No offense. We just think he should host the darn awards, and we’re even considering a Facebook campaign to get this going.
Here’s why we’re so convinced: Check out Adam’s well-timed and largely improvised stand-up act at the Variety Women of Power luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Thursday (Sept. 30).
Introduced with mentions of his “So You Think You Can Dance” status and his upcoming task of directing an episode of “Glee,” he joked about how his 16-film career had been boiled down to being “a judge on a game show and directing an episode of ‘Glee.’ It’s fantastic!” he joked.
]]>Lauren Froderman won “SYTYCD.”
But not before he raised a question about Anne Hathaway and her manager Suzan Bymel being possible lovers, praised emcee Lily Tomlin (she rocks!), discussed why he wants to be a strong woman (“At least for today, I’m going
to be a powerful woman. It’s so hot”), talked about how fast he sold the “Being John
Malkovich” franchise, (During Malkovich’s dry witty intro for Diane Lane) , and mentioned how eerie it is that the Kennedy/Shrivers look so much alike.
He was so funny that one felt sorry for Katie Holmes who followed his act by picking up an award for her work
with Shankman on the Dizzy Feet Foundation. a dance-oriented program for
under-privileged kids. (Video of her is below.)
Congrats, Katie. Other award winners
included Amy Adams for the Ghetto Film School, Suzan Bymel for the
Global Creative Forum, Diane Lane for Heifer International, and Eva
Mendes for the Art of Elysium.
After the awards luncheon, guests
grabbed gift bags laden with sponsor loot from L’Oreal, Godiva, Office
Max, Pelican Hill resort and Park Lane jewelry, and Coco-Cola. Sadly, no keys to free Honda cars were found underneath the seats. Maybe next year.
