Sam Elliott may be high on a wish list for the forthcoming “Spider-Man” reboot, but he hasn’t heard from the web-slinger’s reps.
At least not yet.
As famous for his grizzled look as the deep, unmistakable voice that has promoted everything from beef to (currently) trucks, the veteran actor reportedly is among the top choices to play Daily Bugle publisher J. Jonah Jameson in the next chapter of the Sony Pictures franchise that will introduce Andrew Garfield (“The Social Network”) as the new friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
“I had no idea,” Elliott tells Zap2it of the apparent interest in him for the Jameson part. “I just like to work, and the first consideration is that it be decent work, good work. That said, I feel like I’m lucky. I’ve had this career for a long time. It’s what I’ve wanted to do since I was a little kid, and I’ve just been blessed. It’s been good for me and good for my family, and hopefully, I’ve been relatively good to the business.”

I wish I had a crystal ball. We all wish we did, right? “They did ‘Hulk,’ then they did a reboot of that as something totally new … and that fell flatter on its face than the first one did. I hear they’re doing a sequel to ‘Ghost Rider’ as well. I don’t think I’ve been recast; I just think my character isn’t in it.” After his brief but memorable role as an airline captain opposite George Clooney in last year’s Oscar-nominated “Up in the Air,” Elliott — long married to actress Katharine Ross (“The Graduate”) — appears next with John Corbett and Karen Allen in CBS’ Hallmark Hall of Fame drama “November Christmas” Sunday, Nov. 28. “Listen,” Elliott says, “if I’m gonna go do a Hallmark show after what I’ve been working in the last couple of years, I’ll do anything. It’s about the material and the people you work with.” Follow Zap2it on Twitter and Zap2it on Facebook for the latest TV, movie and celebrity news. Photo credit: Getty Images
