kim kardashian world aids day Celebrity Twitter accounts not coming back to life anytime soon

In an admirable show of solidarity with World AIDS Day, several celebrities — including Kim Kardashian, Ryan Seacrest, Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga — have sworn off Twitter until $1 million is raised for HIV/AIDS non-profit, Keep a Child Alive.

]]>On Dec. 2, Popeater reports that in the first crucial day, only received just over $160,000 in pledges. In the following 24-hours, only another $23,000 has been added to that total. Without a serious boost, the celebrity tweet drought of 2010 could stretch well into 2011. Matching the day 2 donations every day, an incredibly generous assumption, would still see the radio silence last until January 4. If only there were a way to send the public quick reminders to donate money… Oh, right. Twitter! The boycott apparently doesn’t prohibit posts about the fundraiser, so all participants have been sending out daily links to donate and testimonials of people who’ve benefited from Keep a Child Alive’s work. This is for such a worthy cause, so we don’t want to make fun, but Kim Kardashian is probably wondering how engaged her 5,477,939 followers are right about now.
