The aliens are coming. They’ll be here in June, actually.
The first trailer for TNT’s new series “Falling Skies” has hit the web, and while you won’t see a whole lot of the invading extraterrestrial horde, it’s a well-made teaser nonetheless. The show, executive produced by Steven Spielberg, stars Noah Wyle as a history professor who becomes a resistance leader after an alien invasion decimates the planet.
The trailer (which opens with a spooky, Spielbergian bit of narration by a little girl describing the invasion) shows a good bit of the invasion, but the series will focus more on the human resistance: Wyle is the father of three sons, one of whom has been captured by the invaders, and as he tries to lead people against the aliens, he’s also trying to be a good dad. The two-minute teaser, which is below, reminds us a little of an earthbound “Battlestar Galactica” in its focus on an undermanned human force trying to reclaim their home.
“Falling Skies” also stars Moon Bloodgood (“Journeyman,” “Terminator Salvation”), Will Patton (“24,” “Armageddon”) and Drew Roy (“Secretariat”) and Maxim Knight as Wyle’s sons. Robert Rodat (“Saving Private Ryan”) wrote the pilot and is also an exec producer; Carl Franklin (“The Pacific”) directed it.
