Move over, Harry Potter. And no, we’re not talking about vampires this time.
The third-generation Kindle has surpassed “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” as the best-selling product in Amazon’s history.
Though the online merchant won’t disclose any exact numbers, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos credits price as well as the growing popularity of tablet devices to the Kindle’s success.
“We’re seeing that many of the people who are buying Kindles also own an LCD tablet,” he says in a statement. “Customers report using their LCD tablets for games, movies, and web browsing and their Kindles for reading sessions. Kindle’s $139 price point is a key factor — it’s low enough that people don’t have to choose.”
As for what people are downloading on their new e-readers: “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” was both the most purchased and the most gifted Kindle book on Christmas.
While we love curling up with a good book as much as the next person, this fancy (and lightweight) new Kindle sure is fun to use. Plus, shoving it in a carry-on bag is a heck of a lot easier than lugging multiple books for a long trip.
