Nicholas Brooks has been charged with attempted murder and strangulation in the death of 33-year-old Sylvie Cachay, a swimwear designer he was dating until shortly before her death, according to the AP.
Cachay’s body was discovered in New York’s Soho House early Thursday morning (Dec. 9). Police found her body in an overflowing bathtub with red marks on her neck.
At the time her body was found, a friend of Cachay’s told the New York Daily News, “I don’t think it was a healthy relationship. I just think he’s unstable from what she’s told me.”
Brooks is the 24-year-old son of Oscar-winning songwriter Joseph Brooks, most famous for the 1977 hit “You Light Up My Life” from the movie of the same name. In a bizarre twist, the elder Brooks was indicted in 2009 on 82 counts of sexual assault and is currently awaiting trial.
