Former NBA player Nick Van Exel’s 20-year-old, Nickey Van Exel, has been accused of murdering a friend and was arrested on Dec. 29. Van Exel is being charged with capital murder after shooting his longtime friend, 23-year-old Bradley Eyo, 23, and then dumping his body near Lake Ray Hubbard.

Johnson told AP, “It’s a real sad situation. Emotions are running high, and, obviously, we recognize that some very bad decisions were made on how he responded.” The shotgun Van Exel used for the murder has yet to be found and several of Eyo’s possessions are missing, leading police to believe Van Exel also committed theft. He is being held at Dallas’ Lew Sterrett Justice Center on $1 million dollar bail. Van Exel turned himself in and is said to be cooperating with police. Nick Van Exel played in the NBA for 13 years for teams such as the Los Angeles Lakers, Denver Nuggets, Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs and is currently the assistant coach of the Atlanta Hawks.
