obama quits smoking Rest easy, President Obama probably quit smoking

Being the president is funny. Seemingly irrelevant tidbits of your personal life are often clinically dissected during press conferences — like for President Barack Obama and his (possibly defunct) smoking habit.

]]>released by The Washington Post, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs was asked about the president’s current smoking status.

“I have not seen or witnessed any evidence of smoking in probably 9 months,” says Gibbs. “This is not something that he’s proud of. He knows that it’s not good for him… and I think he has worked extremely hard.”

Though he hasn’t been caught in the act in some time, Obama has been open about his struggles with cigarettes. So it’s easy to assume that the stresses of being the leader of the free world might have him wanting to fall back. Not so, says Gibbs.

“He understands its dangers, and I think has done a lot of extraordinary work to wrestle with that habit,” he says, “as millions of Americans have.”

Gibbs wouldn’t say if the president implored any specific techniques, but he did mention his “stubbornness” — which leads us to assume that Obama’s gravitas has kept him from picking up a pack.
