NBC is giving a pretty big push to “The Cape,” its midseason show about a cop turned masked hero.
But not “superhero,” exactly. As series star David Lyons (“ER”) explains in the video above, his character, Vince Faraday, doesn’t have any special powers. After being framed for crimes and presumed killed while a TV audience — including his wife and son (Jennifer Ferrin and Ryan Wynott) — watches, he goes underground and is adopted by a carnival troupe/band of thieves led by the mysterious Max Malini (Keith David, “Lottery Ticket,” “Death at a Funeral”).
Vince takes on the persona of his son’s favorite comic-book character, The Cape, and with Max’s help, learns to use his cape as a weapon. The show also stars Summer Glau (“Firefly,” “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”) as Orwell, who’s on her own crusade against crime in their hometown of Palm City, and James Frain (“The Tudors”) as a billionaire who has his hands in much of the city’s corrupt enterprises. You’ll also see former “West Wing” star Richard Schiff, who guest stars in an early episode.
The show debuts with a two-hour premiere on Sunday, Jan. 9 and moves to Mondays the following night.
