“American Idol” is here and Zap2it has been taking a stroll down memory lane to re-evaluate the previous nine seasons.
categories: Best Performance, Worst Performance, Most Underrated Idol
and most Overrated Idol. At the end, we will decide how the season
stacks up against the rest, rating it as great, good, or not-so-good.
Season 8 contestants in order of elimination:
Kris Allen (winner)
Best performance: Don’t make us choose!
There are too many from this season. We loved “Mad World,” “Tracks of My Tears,” “Heartless,” “Ring of Fire,” “I Can’t Make You Love Me,” “Falling Slowly,” “Ain’t No Sunshine.” Seriously, this was a very strong year. But we are putting up “Tracks of My Tears” because we thought Glambert really went outside his Glambert box on this one and it was amazing. When he gets to the bridge and sings, “My smile is my makeup I wear since my break-up with you,” we still get chills.
Worst performance: Megan Joy, “Rockin’ Robin”
We liked Megan Joy on some songs. But this was terrible. A trainwreck of epic proportions. Honorable mention: Danny Gokey’s “Dream On”
Most underrated Idol: Alexis Grace
Going out third in finals was way too early. This season is really where it became apparent that the voting demographic was going to keep cute boys around over good female singers. A real shame, we liked her voice a lot. Honorable mention: Allison Iraheta. Yes, she made the final four. But she was better than Danny Gokey and should have advanced one more week. In fact, we kinda thought it should’ve been an Adam/Allison finale.
Most overrated Idol: Danny Gokey
Enough with the dead wife sob story. That is very sad, but it is not the point of the show and Danny was just not that strong of a singer. He was shouty and off-pitch a lot.
How the season stacks up: Great
We thought Season 8 was one of the best seasons the show has ever done. Maybe the very best.
