Amber Heard is in discussions to take one of the lead roles in NBC’s drama “Playboy.” The drama is set at a Playboy Club in the 1960s; Heard, presumably, will be playing a Bunny in the show created by Chad Hodge (“Tru Calling,” “Runaway”). Heard’s credits include The CW’s “Hidden Palms,” “Pineapple Express” and “The Stepfather.” [Variety]
ABC has greenlit a bevy of drama pilots, including projects from “Desperate Housewives” creator Marc Cherry (“Hallelujah,” about a battle between good and evil, with a gospel choir acting as a sort of Greek Chorus) and “Paranormal Activity” director Oren Peli (“The River,” about the search for a missing adventurer in the Amazon). “Sex and the City” and “Beverly Hills, 90210” creator Darren Star also got the greenlight for a drama presentation called “Bitches,” a soap about a fallen former mean girl in Dallas.
But wait, there’s more: “Once Upon a Time,” about a world where fairy tales may be real from “Lost” veterans Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz; “Revenge,” a Hamptons-set soap from “Swingtown’s” Mike Kelley; “Identity,” about a team dedicated to solving identity crimes from writer John Glenn (“Eagle Eye”); and “Georgetown,” a D.C.-set twentysomething drama from “Gossip Girl’s” Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. CBS has given the go-ahead to an untitled drama about a female detective who can literally remember everything — which is great for work, less so for her personal life. Ed Redlich and John Bellucci (“Without a Trace”) are the writers/exec producers; it’s based on a short story called “The Rememberer” by J. Robert Lennon. [Deadline]
NBC has ordered a pair of comedy pilots. “Bent,” from “Scrubs” writer/producer Tad Quill, is about a single mom who finds herself falling for the laid-back contractor who’s remodeling her kitchen. “Parks and Recreation” scribe Emily Spivey is creating an untitled show about a working mom, her stay-at-home husband and her parents; Lorne Michaels is exec producing with Spivey.
