Ticket holders for El DeBarge‘s upcoming tour are about to have their undoubtedly jam packed schedules free up.
The R&B singer has canceled his scheduled tour after voluntarily checking himself into rehab Monday (Feb. 14) evening. Must have been a rowdy V. Day.
“I hate to disappoint my fans but it is necessary for me to take the time to work on me so that I may continue to share my music and my story with everyone,” he says in a statement. “I thank everyone in advance for their prayers and well wishes and hope that you will respect my privacy during this time.”
DeBarge is probably best known for fronting his family band, DeBarge, and for their 1985 hit “Rhythm of the Night.” The singer went on to his own not-so-successful solo career through the 80’s and 90’s.
He was arrested several times in the first decade of the 2000’s on drug charges, eventually landing himself in jail. In 2010, after being released from prison, he put out a comeback album called “Second Chance.” DeBarge received two Grammy nominations for the title track in the Best male R&B vocal performance and Best R&B song categories.
