A rep for “Tron: Legacy” actress Olivia Wilde confirms Tues. (Feb. 8) that she and hubby of eight years, Tao Ruspoli, have split.
So who is this Italian royal who won over the heart of an 18-year-old Wilde?
Ruspoli, whose full name is Tao dei Principe Ruspoli, is the son of Italian Prince Alessandro Ruspoli and Austrian-American actress Debra Berger. Born in Thailand, he was raised in Rome and Los Angeles with dual citizenship and graduated from UC Berkley with a degree in Philosophy.
Ruspoli currently works as a filmmaker and musician, most well known for his documentary “Just Say Know,” which explored his own family’s personal issues with drug addiction. As for his musical inclination, he apparently plays a mean flamenco guitar.
The now 35-year-old wed Wilde in 2003 after just six months together, but their wedding certainly wasn’t a royal affair.
Wilde told Playboy recently that their “special day” actually took place in an abandoned school bus in Virginia.
“The bus was the only place we could be completely alone,” she explains. “The wedding was a secret, and we wanted to do it someplace where we could hide with our best friends. It was all about the intimacy of the promise we were making.”
Unfortunately, it looks like the promise fizzled.
