Six years. That’s how long the Winklevoss twins, Cameron and Tyler (collectively known as The Winklevi in certain circles) have been embroiled in a legal battle with Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg (known as a gazillionaire in certain circles).
In case you have been living under a rock, the Winklevoss twins are Olympic rowers who were portrayed by Armie Hammer (and Josh Pence, but really mostly Armie Hammer) in “The Social Network.” The Oscar-nominated film is a fictionalized account of the Facebook saga, including their claim that Zuckerberg stole the idea for Facebook from them while they were all gentlemen of Harvard.
The twins have already cashed in – Zuckerberg paid them a reported $65 million settlement. But they’re still not happy with their take, so they’ve continued to wage their war in court… and in the media. The twins were on CNN on Tuesday night to discuss the plight of being good looking olympic athletes who only have $32.5 million dollars each. It’s truly a tragic story.
They also talked about how weird it was to see one guy play both of them. (Sorry, Josh Pence, your life still sucks.)
“We had to remind ourselves, even though we knew that there were some CGI effects,” says one of the twins. We think it’s Tyler, but that’s an uneducated guess. “After a while you’re watching the movie and you kind of forget that it’s one guy playing two people. He definitely captured two distinct personalities on screen.”
Then, Piers Morgan asked about their trepidation to see the movie. “I think there was a relief when it was over,” says maybe-possibly-Tyler. Of course there was. They came off looking like… well, like Armie Hammer.
“The good thing is that we don’t think the story is fully told yet,” says maybe-Cameron. “So we have that hope.”
The other good thing is that you have $65 million of Zuckerberg’s money. And Zuckerberg has a Facebook stalker. Which is always fun.
