The new “Superman” is coming together quite nicely.
As of late January, Henry Cavill of Showtime’s “The Tudors” had signed on to play Clark Kent in the upcoming Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures remake.
Deadline reports on Wednesday (Mar. 2) that he will now be joined by Diane Lane in the role of Martha Kent — Superman’s adoptive mother.
“This was a very important piece of casting for me because Martha Kent is the woman whose values helped shape the man we know as Superman,” says director Zack Snyder. “We are thrilled to have Diane in the role because she can convey the wisdom and the wonder of a woman whose son has powers beyond her imagination.”
Other cast members have not yet been announced for the December 2012 release, but among some rumored front-runners are Kevin Costner (as Jonathan Kent) and Viggo Mortinson (as General Zod).
Diane Kruger, Rosamund Pike and Diane Kruger are all reportedly under consideration for the non-Lois Lane female lead.
Lane can next be seen in HBO’s “Cinema Verite” alongside Tim Robbins and James Gandolfini.
