“Little Fockers,” the third installment in the “Meet the Parents” franchise, is set to be released on Blu-ray and DVD April 5th. In it, Robert De Niro reprises his role as the overbearing patriarch Jack Byrnes.
In this DVD bonus feature courtesy of E! Online, De Niro sits down with Ben Stiller and revisits the past 10 years with the series.
“With this character, I can try things that I normally wouldn’t try with another character because it would seem crazy to do,” he says. “So that, in itself, is more freeing in a way and you can have more fun doing things.”
Stiller recalls his reaction to the initial suggestion of the iconic actor for the part.
“‘Yeah, Robert De Niro. That would be great,'” he said at the time. “‘Good luck with that.'”
The role was definitely something new for the “Goodfellas” actor, who entered into the comedy with an open mind.
“‘Let’s do it. Why not?'” he remembers. “‘I’ll try it.'”
And for that, we thank the man. It’s hard to picture anyone else pulling off such a flawless Jack Byrnes. Watch the clip below.
