2010’s award-season darling “The Blind Side” told the story of the Tuohy family, a wealthy Tennessee family, and Michael Oher, the poor boy that they took in who later became a first-round draft pick for the NFL. Sandra Bullock won a Best Actress Oscar for her portrayal of Leigh Anne Tuohy.
Leigh Anne’s daughter, Collins Tuohy, was portrayed in the film by Lily Collins (daughter of famed singer Phil Collins). A year after “The Blind Side” was an Oscar contender, the real Collins Tuohy now frequently speaks to students about her brother Michael Oher and the way her family’s life changed when he moved into their home.
Collins and Michael attended Ole Miss together, where she was a cheerleader supporting him at his games. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism and she’s now represented by the Greater Talent Network, a celebrity speakers representation group.
She’s on the Board of the Making it Happen Foundation, “dedicated to changing children’s lives through hope, love, and opportunity,” and she is regularly booked for speaking gigs where she tells the story of her relationship with Oher.
“The most important thing that I want people to take away from my message, and I always try to include every time I speak – it’s a little bit about the power of one. One person can’t necessarily change the world, but you can definitely change the world for one person,” Collins says.
