Vanessa Hudgens‘ and Alex Pettyfer‘s revamp of the classic “Beauty and the Beast” hits theaters Friday (Mar. 4), and while they have top billing in the lead roles of Lindy and Kyle respectively, it’s Neil Patrick Harris and Mary-Kate Olsen that are stealing the scenes in their supporting roles.
NPH stars as Will, Kyle’s blind tutor who lives with him after a teenage witch named Kendra (Olsen) transforms him from teen-dream to a scarred and mutilated “beast.”
“We had such a blast,” she says. “Neil is not only hysterical, like, his body of work is amazing — but he is just a really, really sweet kind guy.”
As for working with Olsen, the “High School Musical” star says she grew up watching the Mary-Kate and Ashley films.
“I’m such a big fan of hers, ever since I was young,” Hudgens gushes, adding that being able to work with MK was a pleasant surprise.
“One thing that I really took from Mary-Kate was just her way of being,” she says. “She is very surprisingly laid back and just a really cool, smart and collected girl… She’s just really surprisingly grounded and just a cool chick.”
Harris plays blind pretty convincingly, and Hudgens tells us why.
“[He] wore these contacts in his eyes so that he actually could not see,” she explains. “He could see out of his peripherals, but he couldn’t see what was going on, which made things interesting but he’s a lot of fun.”
