Westboro Baptist Church — the protesters who show up at funerals for fallen service members to protest gays in the military — have found another totally inappropriate venue to spread their message of intolerance to homosexuality: Elizabeth Taylor’s funeral.
On Wednesday (March 23), Margie J. Phelps, lead legal counsel for the church and daughter of the church leader Fred Phelps, tweeted the church’s plans to show up at Taylor’s funeral:
And that’s a tame example from a flurry of tweets about Taylor, who Phelps repeatedly describes as “Not RIP” because of her work to raise money for AIDS research.
A representative for Taylor’s family told CNN that the details of any plans would remain private, though TMZ is reporting that the funeral is scheduled to take place Thursday (March 24), which is likely too quick for Westboro Baptist Church to mobilize.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.
