CNN reports that hip-hop singer Wyclef Jean was shot in the hand on Saturday, Mar. 19, while in Haiti. Jean was in Port-au-Prince on the eve of the country’s presidential runoff vote when he was shot.
The singer was taken to a hospital, treated and released. Spokeswoman Cindy Tanenbaum said the wound was superficial and that Jean “is doing well.”
Jean was born in Haiti and was one of the first celebrities to offer aid after the earthquake. Last year, Jean announced his plan to run for Haitian presidency, but was later deemed ineligible to run by election officials.
His eligibility was questioned after claims that he had not lived in Haiti for five consecutive years prior to the election.
